    BRAZILIAN AGATE NODULE

Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil

SIZE: 6 1/8"X 3 3/4"X 2"                    WEIGHT: 2 Lbs. 6 ounces

PRICE:  $45.00

Description: This offering is for a nice single Brazilian Agate nodule with good banding and small crystalline Quartz pocket. If you are an Agate collector (like us), you probably know that the vast majority of Brazilian Agate mined today is processed  into slabs, paperweights and bookends in Asia, Europe and the U.S. This material is almost exclusivly of lower quality, as the higher quality Agates do not take acid dyes or heat treatment as well as the lower-grade ones do. Thus, mining operations in Brazil concentrate on obtaining only commercial material for industrial uses and tourist markets, leaving the collector of FINE quality Agates with little to choose from when it comes to Brazil. This pair is CHOICE OLD STOCK Purchased in the 1970's by Herb and Helen Ramsey and represents quite well, what Brazil produced during THAT period.

    BRAZILIAN AGATE NODULE PAIR

Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil

SIZE: 4 1/8"X 3 1/4" -- 4"X 3 1/2""                    WEIGHT: 3 Lbs. Total

PRICE:  $185.00

Description: This offering is for a VERY fine Brazilian Agate Nodule pair.  The photos clearly show that this display pair has wonderful, strong, natural color saturation — crisp, sharp fortification banding — a well defined solution channel that betrays the location of Agate deposition — and is polished to a mirror finish (sorry about the reflections!). Some notes on Agates
While Agate has been known and used as a gem and ornamental stone for thousands of years, it has never been in such wide demand as it is today! Perhaps one reason why Agates are so desirable is the fact that they are found in an endless array of beautiful colors and patterns. One variety of Agate that is quite popular with collectors is termed "banded" or "fortification" Agate. The lines and banding can assume quite a diversity of shapes in this type of Agate. When these lines are parallel to one another, and follow the outer shape of the Agate inward, they may resemble the entrenchments or arrangement of old-time fortifications, thus they are termed Fortification Agate. There are also many types of inclusions found within Agates, and these fall under two general groupings - Sagenite and Moss. When the inclusions are acicular or "needle-like", sometimes forming sharp, divergent sprays, they are considered Sagenite. If the inclusions are dendritic, exhibiting stringy "moss-like" Filaments or bushy tree patterns, they are considered Moss. Collecting Agate specimens is a truly rewarding and enjoyable aspect of the Mineral collecting hobby, and the study of their formation is as engaging as the most complex of Mineral deposits!
