MICHIGAN COPPER SPECIMENS
Well, I just returned from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan -- and what a place to visit!  If you are a mineral collector, I highly recommend a collecting trip or vacation to this very beautiful part of the United States.  Our trip began in Houghton -- the hub of Michigan's once booming Copper industry and home of the world renowned A.E. Seaman Mineral Museum.  This museum contains unarguably the worlds greatest collection of Michigan Copper Country minerals.  Following hwy 26/41 north up the Keweenaw Peninsula, the road gently winds through lush hardwood forests and quaint but nearly abandoned mining towns that hint of once prosperous and thriving communities now long gone.  You will pass numerous closed Copper mines on this road (many world famous and many open to collecting as well -- metal detectors being highly recommended for Copper!).  The list of minerals that can be discovered from the dumps of these famous mines is quite extensive -- to name just a few: Copper, Datolite, Epidote, Calcite, Quartz, Apophyllite-(KF), Thompsonite, Prehnite, Analcime, Chlorastrolite (Michigan's state stone) all can be found here and much more.  In addition to the abundant mineral wealth of the Keweenaw Peninsula's Copper mines -- this collectors paradise also boasts some of the most prolific beach localities to collect world famous Lake Superior Agates.   Again, if you are planning a field collecting trip or vacation, the Keweenaw peninsula's got it all: beautiful country, friendly people and numerous mine dumps with incredible  collecting potential!  Below, you will find a selection of choice Copper specimens from various mines across the Keweenaw Peninsula that we hope you will enjoy.   If you have any questions  please feel free to email us at earthquest@volcano.net.
